After an initially unlucky season start, marked by a serious injury suffered during a training session when he was hit by a car, Tony had the strength to recover and make it back to the top of his game, winning the TT and the final classification in the Tour of Belgium and the national championship TT. When everything seemed to be going smoothly, bad luck hit Tony once again during the Tour de France. A flat in the prologue cheated him of the chance to wear the first yellow jersey, and an insignificant fall the next day forced him to withdraw after a week of suffering caused by a fractured scaphoid. However, Tony proved to be a tenacious champion and at the end of the season he reaped the fruits of his labors. He was the individual and team TT World Champion and winner of the Tour of Beijing for the second time in a row. These important successes added an even greater dimension to his career, and in 2013 Tony will again be among the major stars on team OPQS.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team riders Tom Boonen and Tony Martin met with the press today, and discussed their objectives for the upcoming Tour of Belgium. Tour of Belgium takes place from May 22nd until May 26th.
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team has announced the selection that will take part in Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn - Frankfurt on Wednesday, May 1st. The race includes a steep climb: the Mammolshainer Berg — a short climb with a 26% ramp in sections. There is also a circuit in Frankfurt for the final.
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider and UCI World TT Champion Tony Martin powered to yet another time trial victory in 2013, winning the 18.7km Stage 5 of Tour de Romandie on Sunday with a time of 21'07", averaging 53.105km/h.

Today I am so happy and proud about Tony. I know the effort he put in to be competitive in this race. He really was a fighter in the last weeks. He had a lot of bad luck in the last weeks. He really deserved this medal.
