In 2012 Stijn was one of Tornado Tom's most trusted warriors. His influence can be seen in almost all of Boonen's greatest victories. Born in Oudenaarde, in the heart of Flanders, Stijn is a great athlete and a nice guy who can infuse the entire group with serenity and confidence. Last season he participated in the Olympics but had to miss the World Championships due to a problem with his right knee, which required surgery. After a winter of rehabilitation and training, Stijn will definitely be ready once again to feel the wind in his face in the races he will be called upon to ride.

Stijn's news

It was a dangerous and difficult day at AMGEN Tour of California Stage 2, in which many riders in the peloton had heat related medical problems such as cramps and dehydration. Temperatures reached more than 43 degrees Celsius on course, with temperatures reaching record highs as the race neared the finish.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Stijn Vandenbergh was 8th, finishing with the former select group that produced eventual race winner Peter Sagan (Cannondale) on Sunday at Gent-Wevelgem. Gent-Wevelgem was shortened by about 45km, with a different starting location, because of snow and cold.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team riders Stijn Vandenbergh and Nikolas Maes worked their way into a 10 rider select group, and Vandenbergh led eight chasers for the final kilometers to catch an attacking Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar) just 10m before the finish line at 200km Dwars Door Vlaanderen on Wednesday. Oscar Gatto  (Vini Fantini - Selle Italia) won the race. Borut Bozic (Astana Pro Team) was 2nd, Mathew Hayman (Team Sky ProCycling) was 3rd.
