Like his brother Martin, Peter is also an authentic cycling globetrotter, spending most of the year far from Slovakia riding and training, or just on relaxing holidays like the ones the twins usually spend in California at the end of each season. In 2012 Peter conquered the Tour of Oman and followed up that win with a victory in the national championship TT. After a roller-coaster Tour de France, Peter was part of the squad that captured the World Championship TTT in Valkenburg. Always available and interested in change, next year Peter is aiming to improve in the major stage races as well as one-day events.

Peter's news

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Peter Velits was the top finisher for OPQS at the 26.8km final stage ITT at Tour de Suisse on Sunday. Velits was 13th (+1'36") in a time trial with a steep uphill finish that forced riders to switch to road bikes for better climbing.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Peter Velits was the top finisher in a hectic 180.5km Stage 8 of Tour de Suisse on Saturday, with the peloton completely strung out going into the sprint finale, shedding riders with each passing kilometer.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team riders Tom Boonen and Niki Terpstra were able to make an 18 rider breakaway at Tour de Suisse Stage 3 on Monday. The lead group was reduced to about 9 riders heading into a section of back-to-back climbs that included  Category 4 and Category 1 ascent before reaching the last summit at km 183.9 of 200km.
