Steggel is one of the most explosive riders in the group. His lead-outs for Boonen are a part of the team's history, as are his splendid victories in the 2007 Tour de France at Gent and in 2008 in the last stage in Paris, a favorite among sprinters the world over. Gert lives in Monaco with his French girlfriend, Laura, whom he met at the Tour de France, and their beautiful daughter, Maélya. Gert is crazy for sushi and he's also an excellent photographer. In fact, he's famous for his touched-up portraits of his teammates, which he creates during the long transfers in the team's motor home.

Omega Pharma -Quick-Step Cycling Team put on a show in Middelkerke at the 7km Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen Prologue on Friday, as Belgian National TT Champion Kristof Vandewalle won with a time of 8'09", and his teammates were not very far behind.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team Sport Director Wilfried Peeters confirmed the two teams for the upcoming races this weekend: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne.

After a fall during training yesterday, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, Gert Steegmans has suffered a small fracture to his right thumb, as well as a gash on his right hand, which required five stitches.
